Business goals
Louisiana State University aimed to enhance student success by transitioning from legacy systems to cloud-based Workday technology, including the rollout of Workday Student for its nearly 39,500 students. This shift is expected to improve financial, HR, and educational processes while reducing manual data tasks, enabling staff to focus on higher-value work. LSU needed an integration and automation platform that would allow IT to quickly and easily connect legacy and cloud systems, enabling faster delivery of new services to meet institutional goals.
Integration Challenges
LSU struggled with slow, expensive custom integrations to connect systems, which limited scalability and required specialized developers. Manual processes were common due to difficulties integrating ERP and HR cloud solutions with on-premises systems, driving up labor costs and creating operational complexity. Managing these disparate tools and custom code added to IT challenges.
How Boomi Helped
LSU uses the Boomi Enterprise Platform to operate nearly 160 integrations connecting Workday ERP and HCM to systems like legacy SIS, CRM, payment processing, housing, research, and grants. The university has also created 20 APIs using Boomi API Management for additional integrations. While LSU uses Workday Studio for some inbound and boomerang integrations, it also leverages Boomi’s any-to-any flexibility for other cases. An upcoming migration from legacy SIS systems at four campuses to Workday Student will provide further opportunities to expand Boomi’s capabilities.
Results
With Boomi, LSU’s IT team gained the agility to launch digital services much faster, improving digital experiences for faculty, students, and staff by eliminating data silos and minimizing double data entry. LSU’s Workday Student implementation will expand on its success with Boomi, achieving outcomes like 5X faster integrations, doubling capacity for a six-person team, improving efficiency by automating manual data tasks, quickly onboarding new users with ease, and scaling for high transaction volumes, processing up to 40,000 records per file.
