Key Takeaways
- Boomi lets you focus on connecting what you already have, rather than doing a full system rebuild to establish a single source of truth across disconnected applications.
- Clean, synchronized golden records are essential for powering reliable and context-aware agentic AI workflows.
- Task-focused AI agents can drive practical business automation with governance and control.
Every integration architect knows the challenge of connecting systems and building a hub-and-spoke model. Connecting a CRM to an ERP comes to mind. Disconnected systems. Manual reconciliation. No single source of truth. I see this constantly in my solution engineering work, and the focus is on connecting what you have the right way, rather than doing a rebuild. Here’s what that looks like in practice.
What You’ll See in This Demo
In this demo we review a real-world scenario I’ve seen come up repeatedly. No abstract feature tours here! We begin with platform overview, work our way into Integration and API Management, then Data Hub and then Agentstudio. Altogether, you’ll see how connected systems deliver a 360-degree view, giving you the opportunity to streamline a source-to-pay process with an invoice reconciliation agent.
The Boomi Platform, From the Ground Up
I see the Boomi Enterprise Platform as a pyramid, with data readiness serving as the base, complete with automated data pipelines moving data from source to target. Just above that level are data integrity, golden records and contextual metadata — all things that feed the hub-and-spoke model, and later, the quality of data agents rely on.The next layer is integration and automation. We’re talking pre-built connectors, AI-led integration, turning applications into API products, plus EDI records and managed file transfer (MFT) capabilities. Finally, at the top, you’ll find the agentic experience. This is made up of three pillars: Outside agents like Copilot or Agentforce; your own agents on top of existing integrations and APIs; and multi-agent orchestration, with several agents working together.
We close this section with common business processes where these agents get deployed (order-to-cash, source-to-pay, hire-to-retire), previewing the invoice reconciliation example we’ll discuss later.
Connecting Systems: Integration and API Management
In this demo, we’re using a real-world example: Connecting a HubSpot CRM (SaaS) to an ERP (self-hosted). Although businesses always need a 360-degree view across systems, they often face a complicated, point-to-point integration landscape, with no unified platform, multiple sources of truth, and manual data movement that creates error risks. So in this HubSpot-to-ERP example, we start with the Boomi home page (Integration, Agentstudio, API Management, Data Hub, community/training, and our marketplace of pre-built connectors and recipes). As an example, we could use Boomi GPT and DesignGen to build a Salesforce-to-NetSuite connection from a natural language prompt, reusing existing connections.
Next, we look at the integration canvas. We map HubSpot data into a cloud-based database via drag-and-drop field mapping, and generate a custom order number from combined fields. Finally, we run test logs that confirm that everything transferred successfully.
Last, we turn it into an API deployed to the API Gateway, with JWT-based authentication and encryption keys, plans and tiers that control message size, quote and rate limits, and a developer portal that gives stakeholders access to what they need.
One Source of Truth: Inside Boomi Data Hub
See how Data Hub simplifies data synchronization and routing logic using the same hub-and-spoke model (multiple apps syncing into one central repository, with central data governance and stewardship). You’ll also see how models act as common data models. We define fields and which sources contribute or update each field (i.e. membership ID, ERP ID, required status, masking rules, etc.)
We also run data quality rules that validate incoming records and quarantine records that fail, allowing stakeholders to review, edit, delete, or resubmit. Then we look at matching rules that determine how records merge into golden records. In the example we run, you’ll see how five out of eight incoming records matched cleanly, while three were quarantined for having missing data.
Finally, we merge a second system’s data into the same golden record without creating duplicates. Then we add a third system that adds membership IDs, dates of birth, and gender to the same customer profile to extend the 360 view across three systems with no duplication. This merged golden record can then be sent back downstream to other connected systems.
Building AI Agents With Boomi Agentstudio
With everything we’ve done to this point, an agent can get much better context from a golden record rather than querying three separate systems. We cover some Agentstudio basics, including designing agents from scratch or with AI assistance. You’ll also see how we define agent tools and guardrails.
Now we get into the real work: Building an invoice reconciliation agent, which consists of these four steps: You’ll see how we define the profile, break down the tasks into discrete steps, each with its own tool, set guardrails and finally, test and deploy.
We then start a live run where the agent performs a three-way match across the purchase order, goods received notice and invoice, returning with a fully matched status, complete with a trace log. You’ll also see how agents can be dropped directly into a process, including multi-agent logic for more advanced business rules.
Then there’s Agent Control Tower, a governance dashboard revealing invocation counts per agent, chain-of-thought reasoning traces and managed providers that sync visibility across Boomi or outside agents like Copilot or Agentforce, all in one view.
More Ways AI Accelerates Your Work
There are additional ways AI can accelerate your work, beginning with Boomi Scribe from the Integration Canvas. You’ll see how it can generate documentation for a process automatically and can be downloaded as a Word doc, covering process steps and functions without manual writeup.
In addition, you can eliminate manual dragging and dropping with Boomi Suggest, a mapping assistant that auto-suggests field pairings between systems. We tie it all together with reusability: The same connections and profiles are reused across Boomi Integration, Data Hub, and agent scenarios, all from one console.
Rather than one, all-encompassing agent, the Boomi approach favors narrow, task-focused agents like the invoice reconciliation agent, which are also easier to manage and control over time.
