The Boomi business and IT report also delves into priorities for technology investments, finding that organizations are focused on cloud systems that deliver greater speed, agility, and cost-effectiveness than the legacy on-premises technology of the past.

Technology and business priorities are converging as organizations address challenges in the areas of budget, IT skills, and data utilization. Our study suggests that cloud and data technologies are instrumental as organizations build on success and zero in on challenges:
- Budgetary challenges can be mitigated with cloud-based technologies that don’t leave organizations burdened with the sizable technical debt of legacy on-premise systems.
- Impact of the IT shortage can be lessened as organizations move to user-friendly cloud systems, requiring fewer staff. That also makes an organization more attractive to younger IT professionals with little interest in outdated technologies.
- Competitive advantage is boosted when organizations can leverage data to improve customer relationships, increase operational efficiency, and make informed strategic and tactical decisions.
