This article recaps the Boomi Integration and Automation Platform January 2024 release and highlights recently delivered product features. For a full list of what’s included in the release, see the detailed release notes.

Let’s take a look at the highlights in this release.

Integration

We are excited to announce the general availability of our new component creation APIs. This enhancement to our existing component APIs allows for creating and updating Integration components such as maps, processes, and profiles. Opening the door to a wide range of use cases, such as migrating from other tools, and the automation of integration assets. You can read more about these APIs here.

Looking ahead, here are upcoming changes that you should be aware of:

  • In February, we will be introducing an opt-in refreshed build canvas experience to tie together prior updates with the component tree and shape icons. Stay tuned.

B2B/EDI

We are thrilled to announce the release of a major update to our HL7 capabilities, which will greatly benefit our healthcare customers. With this release, HL7 profiles will now offer support for enhanced composites. Once the enhanced composite option is enabled in your HL7 profiles, composite data elements will be displayed in a hierarchical tree structure, thus greatly improving the usability of HL7 profiles.

To further improve usability, when enhanced composites have been enabled, a new option will be available, allowing you to specify the delimiter for repeating HL7 data elements.

Connectivity

The connectivity space continues to focus on customer-centric enhancements and issues. Here is the list of what’s new and exciting in this release.

  • The NetSuite connector has been updated to support SOAP Web Services API Versions 2023.1 and 2023.2.
    • Note that, at any time, the six latest endpoints are supported by NetSuite. With 2023.2, the supported WSDL versions are: 2023.2, 2023.1, 2022.2, 2022.1, 2021.2, 2021.1.
The following endpoints are available but not supported by NetSuite, 2020.1, 2019.2, 2019.1, 2018.2, 2018.1, 2017.2, 2017.1, 2016.2. Updating these endpoints to one of the supported WSDL versions is recommended.
NetSuite has sunset 2016.1 or older endpoints. If you are connecting to these endpoints, upgrading to the supported WSDL endpoints is imperative.
  • The MongoDB connector now supports MongoDB version 6.0
  • The Anaplan connector has been updated to authenticate other regions besides the US
  • The Google BigQuery connector has been updated to address issues observed while importing profiles for Runjob and Upsert actions.
  • We have updated the Database v2 and Oracle database connectors to handle NULL values, large values, and small values.
  • The listener framework in the SDK has been enhanced to support environment-specific startup properties for listen operations. You now have the ability to override the properties of a listen operation for each environment using Boomi extensions. The Kafka connector has been updated to leverage this feature, providing support for dynamic topics.
  • We are also excited to introduce two new connectors in Tech Preview – Salesforce REST and Veeva
  • The OpenAPI connector is generally available
  • As part of our commitment to security, critical fixes have been implemented across multiple connectors.

Flow

We are thrilled to announce the latest releases of Boomi Flow, packed to enhance your building experience. Here’s what’s new:

    • Enhanced Themes Functionality: We’ve taken Themes to the next level! You can now import or export a theme from one tenant to another, making it easier to maintain a consistent and appealing look and feel across your projects.
    • Improved Default Player: We’ve listened to your feedback and enhanced the default player. Now, it supports resetting the page to the top after an outcome, ensuring a smoother and more intuitive user experience.

Here’s what’s coming soon:

  • Process Map Element: Say hello to our brand-new Process Map Element! We’ve made establishing connections with your integration processes a breeze. Simply drag and drop the process map shape onto the canvas and watch your integration possibilities unfold. Empower yourself to unlock the full potential of your processes within Integration.
  • Auto Mapping: When using our new process map element, we’ve streamlined the mapping process with the Auto Mapping feature. When mapping to an existing type and the return document is a list or an object, Flow intelligently assists you by defining a compatible score. Save time and reduce errors with this handy addition.
  • Import Profile: If you’ve linked your tenant to an integration account, this feature will be a game-changer for you. Introducing the Import Profile functionality on the Types page. This feature enables you to select a JSON profile from an integration account and create corresponding Types in Flow effortlessly.

Thank you for choosing Flow. Your feedback and support continue to inspire us to create innovative solutions for your business needs. Get started with these fantastic new features today!

API Management

We are excited to announce enhancements to both the API Provider Experience and Consumer Experience that will accelerate your API lifecycle and excite your API consumers. This includes:

  • Enhanced Developer Portal Themes: Our Developer Portal themes now include new items for customization. A background image can be added to the theme to provide a more consistent look-and-feel. Colors can be selected for navigation menu items, including background color, heading, link text, and selected item.
  • Developer Portal Login: The login dialog has an updated appearance, is centered on the screen, and leverages the background image from the portal theme.
  • API Specification Import Enhancements: When importing an API definition (Swagger or OpenAPI), the title, version, description, and basepath will be extracted for optional inclusion in the API Service definition.

Event Streams

We have improved the look and feel of the User Interface to provide you with a better customer experience. This includes:

  • Resizing the copy buttons.
  • Replacing the pop-up with a tool tip that gives you additional information when hovering over a disabled topic.
  • Replaced toast messages with tool-tips
  • Added the Regions Column to the Highest Topic Backlog Table.

Event Streams’ cloud environment is now available for Germany (DEU) in our continued effort to support additional regions.

Platform Apps

Discover

We’re excited to announce our revamped and enhanced interface for our Discover solutions catalog! This is your one-stop shop for templates and services built and served by Boomi and our partners to get you to your integration goals faster. This UI Uplift is the first of many enhancements you will see for Discover this year. Stay tuned for the updates, and go check out our new look today at Discover.boomi.com.

Boomi Labs

We’ve also made some updates to Boomi Labs — our portal for sharing and publishing Boomi assets:

  • Added Publisher Settings to the Boomi Labs UI. Used for sharing and publishing assets on Boomi.
  • Connector Developer added as a menu option on the Boomi Labs dropdown in the masthead for faster and easier access when building and managing custom connectors.

Bundles

We have updated features on the newly launched Bundles product! The “Create a New Bundle” page is enhanced with a Viewed tab, and you can now access a previously viewed Bundle on the new tab so you don’t lose track of public Bundles you may want to revisit.

We have also added an account feature to manage Bundle usage across your accounts better. You can now disable Bundles from the Platform using the disableBundleUI account feature. If the account feature is enabled, the account will not have access to navigate to the Bundles UI, and the option will not show in the Boomi Labs dropdown on the masthead.

In Boomi AI, we made big improvements to Boomi GPT’s NLP layer, transitioning from small language models (SLMs) to using large language models (LLMs) i.e. Claude 2, LlaMa and Amazon Bedrock, GPT is now capable of handling generic input prompts and provides better conversational experience to the end user. In addition, the GPT conversation window now allows up to 750 characters, text wraps and a scroll bar appears when you type a long prompt. We have introduced a mechanism for the user to provide feedback about the quality of a Boomi GPT response using the thumbs up or thumbs down button and by adding qualitative written feedback. Last but not the least, we’ve added new integration suggestions to Boomi GPT for Salesforce, NetSuite, Autotask and SAP connectors

Platform Services

We are excited to announce the general availability of Key Management Service(KMS) that intends to enhance the security of the Boomi platform and its customers. This launch will provide the ability for our customers to use a Boomi-managed KMS or self-managed KMS(for on-prem installations) to secure passwords and secrets used by connectors. Highlights of the product release include:

  • KMS to provide the latest industry-standard key size and encryption algorithms
  • Runtime by default will use a data key to encrypt/decrypt secrets
  • Will give on-prem customers ability to bring their own Hashicorp Vault (BYOV)
  • Will allow Encryption of Environment Extensions’ Secrets in Transit

Once launched, all new Boomi customers will have access to KMS by default. We also plan to migrate the existing customers so they can also take advantage of this great new feature.
