Data sprawl has long been a thorn in the side of enterprises. It results in fragmented, inconsistent, or incomplete information, leading to the usual suspects of problems. Billing errors. Poor customer service. Inaccurate financial reporting.

Historically, master data management (MDM) was the solution, creating “golden records” of accurate data across key domains, such as customers and products. But over time, MDM lost its luster. Solutions were perceived as overly complex, difficult to implement, and failing to deliver value. Case in point: Gartner® hadn’t published a Magic Quadrant™ for Master Data Management since 2021.

AI has changed the stakes.

MDM is experiencing a second wind because it’s now recognized as a great tool for providing AI agents with the contextualized, timely, and trusted data they need to do their best work. In our opinion, the growing significance of AI-ready data is why there’s a brand new 2026 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Master Data Management. We’re delighted that Boomi is positioned as a Challenger – our first-ever placement in this rapidly evolving category.

We believe our inclusion reflects the disruptive energy we’re bringing to a revitalized MDM market through intelligent innovation that supports businesses in this era of agentic transformation. We see MDM as more than maintaining golden records. It serves as the governed data products layer for the modern enterprise, providing the trustworthy foundation and semantic context required to ground autonomous AI agents.

Poor data quality isn’t just an IT bottleneck anymore. It’s an AI blocker.

The Data Activation Company

Over the past year, the Boomi Enterprise Platform has been positioned as a Leader in two other key categories: the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS)1, marking our 12th consecutive time in that position, and the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for API Management.2

While integration and APIs are necessary for a secure foundation for AI, they represent only two legs of the stool. The third, and arguably most essential, is data readiness.

MDM is pivotal to Boomi’s overall data management strategy by equipping agents with clean, enriched data. Boomi Data Hub provides the “single source of truth” that ensures AI agents reason with accuracy. Businesses have the confidence to move with both speed and control in their AI initiatives as they turn complexity into outcomes.

That’s how Boomi activates data.

Master Data Management for AI

There are several aspects of our innovation that we believe highlight how Boomi is making MDM an essential technology for AI success.

Rapid Time to Value With Integration-led MDM

Unlike legacy solutions, Boomi doesn’t consider MDM a stand-alone product. It’s a logical component of our integration foundation. Boomi unifies iPaaS (integration platform as a service), data integration, API management, and agent management into a cloud-native platform. With Boomi Data Hub, organizations scale integration solutions faster through a hub-and-spoke model rather than maintaining complicated point-to-point integrations. The outcome is not only a scalable integration architecture but also an MDM layer that masters trusted data within a single environment, making it ready for AI.

MDM for AI

With AI-ready data, the next question is how to leverage it. You can use traditional architecture where data flows from the MDM layer into the data warehouse layer and from there to your agents. The Boomi Enterprise Platform also offers agent management capabilities, providing simpler, more direct options to leverage your golden records for AI. Specifically, within Boomi Agentstudio, you can build an agent using a Data Hub Query tool. This feeds the agents with trusted data from Boomi Data Hub, ensuring the agent model can reason with the highest accuracy. In addition, Data Hub data can be served directly to other agent providers using MCP.

AI for MDM

Yes, MDM enables AI. But at Boomi, the opposite is true, too, as we use AI to make MDM effortless. We leverage agentic solutions, part of Boomi’s Platform Agents, to dismantle implementation complexity. For example, our Boomi HubGen agent can autonomously build your data models by defining fields and mapping systems to create your source of truth. Agentic solutions can also be applied to automate operational tasks, such as evaluating data discrepancies or generating solution documentation.

Bi-directional Data Activation

Another benefit to being integration-led is Boomi’s ability to synchronize data back into source applications. You can bring data from key applications such as Salesforce, SAP, and NetSuite to match and enrich it in Boomi Data Hub. Then, you can sync it back to those sources without utilizing a downstream data warehouse. This is crucial not only for business users but also because those are systems of record where agents can access the freshest, business-contextualized data without having to jump through multiple transformation-layer hoops.

Boomi Meta Hub

Trusted golden records may not be sufficient for some agents to fully understand the data’s meaning. To bridge that gap, Boomi provides an additional capability that delivers richer context to data through definitions that create a universal business language. Boomi Meta Hub curates a flexible business glossary and links semantics to technical Data Hub assets. This grounding eliminates blind spots and helps agents do their jobs effectively because they understand precisely what they’re looking for and accessing.

What You Need To Know

The business world is changing fast thanks to AI. As investment accelerates, the need for secure, scalable data activation across the enterprise grows with it. Our view at Boomi is that MDM has evolved into a foundational AI activation layer, which is crucial for creating greater confidence in agents’ actions and decisions.

Here’s what Gartner wrote about the resurgence of MDM in its report: “MDM solutions have undergone a significant transformation, evolving from their traditional role as static, back-office systems of record into dynamic, real-time systems of intelligence essential for the AI era. This evolution is not just a technological shift, but a strategic imperative. Organizations recognize that MDM is going beyond consolidating records for reporting and toward providing the trusted context required to ground GenAI, support agentic workflows and fuel real-time operational decision making.”

We believe the return of the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Master Data Management validates what we see every day. High-quality data is the non-negotiable price of admission for AI success. At Boomi, we’re redefining this market to help customers simplify their agentic processes.

Master your data, and you’re well on your way to mastering AI.
