Key Takeaways

  • Boomi ranked first overall among 11 providers in ISG’s 2026 Master Data Management Buyers Guide and earned Leader status in five categories
  • Trusted, multi-domain data is the foundation for analytics and AI. Modern MDM uses AI and agents to cut manual work
  • A top ranking earns a spot on your shortlist, but your requirements decide the purchase, so use ISG’s criteria as a guide

Many enterprises have difficulty answering a deceptively simple question: How many customers do we have? Sales has one number. Finance has another. The service team, working from a different system, has a third. As ISG Research notes in its ISG Buyers Guide™: Master Data Management, 2026 the trouble isn’t primarily counting. It’s about agreeing on what counts in the first place, as a customer, a product, a supplier, etc.

Settling that argument is the job of master data management (MDM). Establishing one agreed-upon set of foundational data — customers, products, suppliers, locations, assets — that every system and team can trust. And in ISG’s latest evaluation of the category, Boomi came out on top.

Boomi Ranks First Among 11 Providers

Information Services Group (ISG) evaluated 11 software providers across connectivity, data modeling, data stewardship, rules, and AI for MDM. To make the cut, each had to show a minimum of $60 million in verified revenue, customers and support on two continents, and at least 50 customers. Boomi ranked first overall and earned an Exemplary rating, which is ISG’s designation for providers that performed above the median in Product Experience and Customer Experience.

Even more telling is how often Boomi landed at the top. ISG awards a Leader designation to the top three providers in each category. Boomi earned it in five: Overall, Product Experience, Capability, Platform, and Customer Experience.

It helps to know what the other ratings mean. ISG sorts providers into four categories. Innovative providers excelled on product but not on customer experience. Assurance providers did the reverse. Merit providers fell below the median on both. Only five providers cleared the median on both fronts, which is what separates a potentially exciting product from one you can reliably build a program around.

That consistency is what experienced software buyers are looking for. A provider that excels at features but stumbles on platform reliability, or one with a strong platform but a thin commitment to its customers, leaves you filling the gaps yourself. Leading across every category just means fewer gaps to fill.

MDM Still Matters

Master data management has long carried a reputation for being complex, costly, and heavily manual. ISG acknowledges the description still fits many legacy products but argues that the number is changing for the better. Cloud delivery, AI, machine learning, and agents now automate matching, classification, profiling, enrichment, and rules enforcement — work that once consumed many hours with teams of specialists.

Not surprisingly, the timing of this revised perspective is no accident. Every AI initiative depends on one thing. Data the business actually trusts. ISG projects that through 2028, three-quarters of enterprises will accelerate data integrity initiatives using data quality and MDM tools to increase trust in the data behind business intelligence and AI.

An AI agent working from conflicting records doesn’t produce insight. It produces confident mistakes at machine speed.

The business cost shows up in familiar places. ISG points out that without reliable ways to track customers, organizations can harm service quality and retention and miss cross-sell and upsell opportunities. The same logic applies to products. If you can’t track bills of materials (BOMs), producing, marketing, and selling gets harder.

ISG also stresses multi-domain capability. Customer and product data remain the natural starting points, but data-savvy enterprises increasingly want to master workers, assets, suppliers, and locations in the same environment. Tools that cover only one domain undercut smooth, efficient operations, which is the broader purpose of MDM.

Where Boomi Stands Out

ISG weighted the vendor evaluations 80% on Product Experience and 20% on Customer Experience, with Product Experience split between Capability and Platform. Boomi led in all of them.

Capability. This is the heaviest-weighted category, spanning 10 function points. Boomi ranked highest of the 11 providers with a score of 90.3% and was named a Leader. ISG cited particular strengths in data asset management, data stewardship for MDM, and AI for master data management.

Platform. Boomi earned Leader status here as well with 86.3%. This category tests the foundation under the features: adaptability, manageability (including governance, security, and compliance), reliability, and usability. It’s the difference between a demo that dazzles and a deployment that holds up.

Customer Experience. Boomi was a Leader again. ISG credited Boomi with strength in articulating the business value of MDM. This is a but critical point. MDM succeeds only when business stakeholders, not just IT, understand why it matters.

Use the Report as a Guide, Not a Verdict

Here’s an obvious truth that nevertheless bears repeating. No analyst ranking picks your software for you. ISG even says as much. It advises enterprises to use the research as a supplement to their own evaluations. A first-place finish should earn Boomi a spot on your shortlist. Your requirements decide whether it earns the contract.

So, bring a checklist. Here are six questions worth asking any MDM provider:

  • Can it connect to the data sources you actually have?
  • Does it support data modeling and stewardship?
  • Can it match, merge, and enrich records accurately?
  • Does it automate rules, using AI, machine learning, and agents to cut manual effort?
  • Does it integrate with your broader data governance and quality initiatives?
  • Does it handle multiple domains, not just customer or product data?

Those are the measures against which the Boomi Enterprise Platform was tested. The platform, from the pioneer of cloud-based integration platform as a service (iPaaS), connects data, applications, processes, and people in one place, with capabilities such as Boomi Data Hub supporting master data across the enterprise.

The complete ISG Buyers Guide shows how all 11 providers scored in every category, including the quadrant placements and the evaluation criteria behind them. If you’re comparing MDM platforms, it’s a useful place to start the conversation.
