Winning With Boomi: Reflections of a New Hire

Today marks just over ninety days into my role as an Account Executive here at Boomi in Western Australia, and I’m more excited today than I was when I first started. In these past three months I’ve come to learn that Boomi is not like your typical global IT vendor in many ways.

Firstly, Boomi has a set of core values that aren’t just a poster on the wall. The team actually lives and breathes the Boomi Culture, going beyond, playing for each other, creating awesome things, owning it, and building trust. Whilst I’ve only been at Boomi a short time, I’ve experienced these values in action in dealing with the team, and it’s great to know that if I have a challenge, either personally or work related, someone (usually multiple someones) will have my back. It’s fantastic to see how these values also translate into how we support our customers.

Secondly, (in my experience) most IT globals typically focus on a handful of point solutions or verticals that only solve challenges within their specific field, like infrastructure, security, or end user, etc. and it’s usually a stretch to prove the tangible business value of the software, gadget, or widget outside of the functions or areas for which it was designed.

From speaking to some of our existing customers I’ve learned that Boomi actually helps solve a plethora of business and real world problems across many different facets of an organization, providing true and tangible value. The only limitation to what Boomi can do is in the imagination of those that use it. In my humble opinion Boomi is less of a product or technology and more of a blank canvas for problem solving. It’s a cultural way of thinking that gives true meaning to our “Go Boomi It” mantra.

So what types of problems does Boomi solve? Here are some examples that I’ve seen:

Boomi saves the planet. A Melbourne based water utility is speeding up the time it takes to detect water leaks in residential homes, leveraging digital water meters and feeding the near real-time data through several systems interconnected by the Boomi AtomSphere Platform. By watching for sudden upward trends in water consumption, Boomi can trigger messaging systems to send automated SMS alerts to update home owners, whilst also kicking off a number of internal processes to raise work orders for technicians to inspect and resolve the issue. Before the digital meters and Boomi, the time taken to detect a leak was around two months (now that’s a lot of wasted water).

Boomi saves lives. Integrating clinical healthcare systems and incident management systems with Boomi, a leading aged care provider in Perth is responding more rapidly to incidents at their facilities and providing more targeted care by placing accurate and timely information in the hands of caregivers ensuring better healthcare outcomes for its residents.

Boomi saves time and money. This one applies to so many customers that I’ve spoken to. Many saw the value in connecting key datasets and applications to allow for actionable insights and automation, but started out with a traditional code- or API-based approach. Whilst that might be ok to prove a concept or for a handful of small non-critical integrations, stakeholders (both internally and externally) inevitably start requesting and expecting more. As a business starts leveraging more data sources and applications and increases automation, the importance of these interconnected environments also increases. So If we don’t start with (or move to) a more reliable and manageable strategy quickly, then complexity, risk, and technical debt are usually soon to follow. For most of our customers this is when the decision to explore data management tools begins and there’s no better place to start than with Boomi.

Boomi allows organisations to simplify management, realise value more quickly, and mitigate the risks associated with traditional application integration approaches. With a cloud-native, simple drag-and-drop interface, hundreds of pre-built connectors and process libraries as well as a crowdsourced approach to data mapping and error resolution, customers can leverage lower cost IT generalists to handle what would otherwise require high cost, hard to find developer resources. This translates to faster project times and lower resourcing costs which equals a big win given the current global IT resource shortages.

Whilst I could go on and on about how Boomi is making the world a better place, making work easier and allowing for truly integrated experiences for employees, customers and suppliers, I’d better get back out there to continue my adventure, helping more customers to “Go Boomi It.”

Thanks for taking the time to read about my journey so far at Boomi.
