Everyone in business today knows how hard it is to find good people. There’s a “war for talent” as organizations struggle to fill critical roles. That’s especially true in the tight job market for IT skills.
One of the best ways to identify candidates is through word of mouth – the networks of current employees. At Boomi, employee recommendations play a pivotal role in our hunt for more rock stars as we add to our fast-growing band.
We currently have hundreds of job openings across multiple disciplines. Employees have been, and will continue to be, instrumental in this growth as they identify great candidates who will make our strong, diverse culture even better.
Previously, we had access to a referral tool maintained by Dell Technologies. But as Boomi recently emerged as an independent company, we’ve ramped up our own system that enables employees to easily recommend great people to our talent acquisition team.
We do it with the Boomi platform.
I’ll give you a brief tour of how it works and the behind-the-scenes processes powered entirely by Boomi. But I also want to explain why our Boomi on Boomi philosophy is so fundamental to how we’re constantly improving our platform for customers. And believe me, we think of ourselves as a customer of Boomi, too.
Boomi Employee Referral System
So, Dell’s referral process relies on Workday. Our employees accessed a system to search for specific job openings to recommend candidates. It could take a bit of time because it required accessing multiple screens, and referral candidates were required to apply using a specific link.
At Boomi, we believe speed is everything. We wanted a fast, simple process. Referral candidates could now apply to any open position at Boomi directly through the careers site and their application could be submitted before or after the Boomi employee completed the referral form. Employees could go to one place, input some basic information about a prospect, and then instantly put that information in the hands of the talent acquisition team. No muss, no fuss.
The process utilizes three parts of the unified Boomi AtomSphere Platform:
With Boomi Flow, we designed a one-stop portal where employees can recommend someone. They can add the candidate’s LinkedIn page and/or attach their resume. An employee can either recommend someone for a specific opening or just be essentially saying: “Here’s an awesome person who should be on our radar for some role!”
The cool part – the backend stuff that people don’t see – begins when someone taps “send.”
Boomi Integration takes over. Boomi, of course, is known for our ability to connect systems and make sure data gets where it needs to be – quickly. In the case of our referral program, submissions get immediately routed to Boomi Employee 360, which is one example of the internal use of Boomi DataHub. It’s the central repository for information about our employees and provides data from all the various systems employees use to do their jobs.
We want to ensure we manage all of our data and not be dependent on a third-party system, like Workday. Our philosophy is that businesses – including Boomi – should always have the ability to control, analyze, secure, and utilize their data the way they wish.
Boomi Employee 360 achieves that. The HR team can access a sortable table showing who has been referred, when, and by whom. Employees can see the people they’ve referred for positions on their work profiles. Because the data is synchronized, Boomi knows who to reward with a referral bonus if someone gets hired.
And remember that ability to attach resumes? We use Boomi Integration to send those to a Google Drive we created that only HR can access for their review.
The Boomi Employee Referral System is a smooth-running machine that helps keep the talent pipeline flowing. But it’s also been something else for us – a sandbox to experiment in and find ways to make processes more efficient.
That’s the magic of Boomi on Boomi. We’re not just telling you how our product works. We’re showing you all the different ways it can work for you because it’s how we use our platform! As we drink our own Kool-Aid, we’re perfecting the recipe. The more Boomi solves internal challenges with our platform, the more we can anticipate the needs of our customers.
After all, the pains we often feel are the same ones other organizations face as the need for seamless connectivity and automation grows. There’s no better way for us to understand and then overcome problems for customers than to do it for ourselves first.
That includes navigating this incredibly challenging job market. Finding dedicated people who share your company’s values and will thrive in your organization has never been more critical.
For us, the Boomi platform is a big part of the solution.
