主なポイント

  • Rethinking the Operating Model: Why moving from MuleSoft to Boomi is fundamentally about eliminating developer bottlenecks and rightsizing workloads, rather than conducting a simple license renewal spreadsheet exercise.
  • Eliminating the Fear of the Unknown: How automated source code analysis uncovers legacy complexity and identifies redundant interfaces in days, enabling a zero-risk, phased domain cutover with full rollback protection.
  • Preserving Complex Logic with AI: How Yenlo’s Intermediate Representation (IR) model pairs with Boomi Companion to convert complex DataWeave scripts without hallucinations, backed by round-the-clock managed runtime hosting via the Connext Platform.

According to Ruud Pors, the primary factor keeping IT leaders tied to legacy middleware isn’t platform capability; rather, it’s the fear of the unknown.

When CIOs face a MuleSoft renewal, “it’s almost never one single event. A renewal moment is the trigger, and a set of frustrations that have been building for a year or two is the real driver,” says Pors, the Vice President of Professional Services at Yenlo. Despite that, integration backlogs and fears of undocumented legacy architectures cause many companies to repeatedly renew contracts despite lingering constraints.

He emphasized that breaking free from this cycle requires much more than swapping software licenses. It demands a complete rethink of a company’s five-year integration operating model. To learn how enterprise leaders are transitioning to Boomi’s low-code environment from complex MuleSoft landscapes, we sat down with Ruud and Uday Ghule, Enterprise Integration Architect at Yenlo. This Q&A has been edited for length and clarity.

How would you describe Yenlo, and what the company does?

Ruud Pors: Founded in 2007 in the Netherlands, Yenlo has expanded across Europe, Asia, and North America as an international technology and managed services specialist focused on integration, API management, and identity and access management. Our multi-vendor strategy, automated migration tooling, and managed runtime operations help global organizations transform legacy integration bottlenecks into secure, AI-ready connected foundations.

While integration remains central to Yenlo’s work, its role is evolving. Our clients seek to securely connect applications, data, and AI at scale. Over the years, Yenlo transitioned from purely implementing integration software to partnering with clients to build and manage the interconnected foundation needed for their broader digital and AI initiatives.

We intentionally adopted a multi-vendor approach to focus on solving the client’s unique problems rather than pushing a single-vendor solution. Partnering with Boomi was a natural progression after recognizing that customer needs vary. While certain organizations need code-intensive tools, others prioritize rapid execution using a low-code model with transparent pricing.

What’s the primary business driver your clients share for migrating from MuleSoft to Boomi?

Ruud Pors: Cost is the visible part. Clients tell us their capacity model does not align with their business, as rigid vCore licensing structures force companies to pay year-round for peak capacity they seldom require, while routine updates stall due to a shortage of specialized engineering talent. When every additional integration triggers another licensing discussion, integration begins to feel like a cost center rather than a key driver of business growth.

Consequently, the tipping point often arrives when a CIO recognizes they are investing enterprise-level capital into a system that still delays the business. What has shifted recently is that the cost to address this issue has dropped significantly, prompting organizations that set the matter aside two years ago to revisit it.

Uday Ghule: The deeper driver is delivery speed and dependency. MuleSoft is a strong developer-centric platform. If every update requires a dedicated software engineer, your integration backlog grows strictly with the number of hard-to-find specialists you can recruit and retain. Switching to Boomi democratizes integration management, enabling internal IT teams to easily maintain and adapt core interfaces.

Moreover, as most organizations lack clear visibility into their integration landscape, assessing the true cost of migration is virtually impossible without thoroughly analyzing the existing setup. This uncertainty creates financial friction, prompting many companies to routinely renew their MuleSoft contracts to avoid unfamiliar risks.

Additionally, instead of mapping MuleSoft vCores directly to Boomi, we rightsize workloads based on actual transaction volumes, peak loads, and concurrency, so customers stop paying year-round for peak capacity they rarely use.

Also, from an integration architectural perspective, moving to Boomi shifts focus from product features to simplifying architecture and operating models, making migration a modernization opportunity rather than a simple replacement.

How does Yenlo structure a MuleSoft-to-Boomi migration to safeguard ongoing business operations?

Ruud Pors: Yenlo doesn’t advocate a big bang approach. I’ve never seen migrations this size where a single cutover was the responsible choice. Our approach involves an automated discovery assessment of the MuleSoft environment that directly addresses the IT leader’s fear of the unknown by profiling complexity and retiring unused interfaces. Our analyzer scans the MuleSoft project files and classifies every interface as low, medium, or high complexity. While not yet a migration, it gives scope, effort, and budget upfront, in days rather than as a discovery project of its own.

We inventory every interface and classify it on business criticality, technical complexity, and reuse. Then migrate domain by domain, running the old and new systems in parallel and reconciling data prior to the final cutover.

Yenlo’s follow-the-sun global delivery model offers 24×7 review capacity, as migrations rarely fail during the build, but in the weeks after go-live. Rollback stays available until the domain is stable. Unmigrated processes remain on MuleSoft to ensure continuous operations, followed by hypercare and heightened alerting.

Success relies on disciplined execution over pure technology. Key pillars include clear definitions of done, output validation before cutover, and a joint IT-business governance board. While automation streamlines execution and improves auditability via real-time documentation, seamless business continuity still requires careful planning and rigorous validation.

How is complex DataWeave code converted into Boomi components?

Uday Ghule: DataWeave extends far beyond basic field-to-field mappings, and transformation logic within many MuleSoft applications frequently incorporates variables, functions, conditional logic, and complex expressions. So, rather than treating DataWeave as a simple text-conversion issue, we developed a custom parser embedded inside our Yenlo Migration Assistant.

This parser analyzes inline scripts as well as external .dwl files, translating the source code into a platform-agnostic Intermediate Representation (IR) model. Formatted as canonical JSON, this model captures input and output types, dependencies, and core logic, ensuring that no mapping rules or business logic are lost during refactoring and preserving complete traceability back to the source code.

Does pairing Yenlo’s IR model with Boomi Companion and AI speed up the build?

Uday Ghule: Our Migration Assistant passes structured, deterministic prompts derived from the IR model directly to Boomi Companion, avoiding the inconsistent outputs and hallucinations typical of natural-language prompting. Consequently, Boomi Companion creates the target Boomi process scaffolding with high accuracy.

Instead of starting from a blank canvas, developers receive an automated assessment, initial process scaffolding, and preserved business logic, replacing uncertainty and manual guesswork with a clear, automated starting point. Beyond the initial build, Boomi Companion assists with post-migration tasks like automated code reviews, test validation, and documentation generation, dramatically reducing post-migration operational overhead.

More importantly, we treat the migration as an opportunity for platform consolidation, not just a runtime replacement, by simplifying the broader stack and using Boomi Master Data Hub and API Management to consolidate separate third-party tools.

How does the Connext Platform for Boomi help clients long-term?

Ruud Pors: Many companies realize that addressing licensing challenges simply shifts the burden to runtime operations, which requires dedicated teams to maintain, patch, and monitor Boomi runtimes and runtime clusters (formerly known as Atoms and Molecules) around the clock. To solve this, Yenlo’s Connext Platform for Boomi manages the hosting and day-to-day operations of the Boomi runtime within a private, containerized Kubernetes environment.

Whether hosted in Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or an on-premises data center, this fully managed solution includes monitoring, DDoS defense, web application firewall protection, and a 24/7 SLA, combining computing and subscriptions into a single predictable annual cost. By letting us handle the infrastructure, clients can focus on business logic without managing background operational tasks.

What advice would you give IT leaders weighing whether to renew their MuleSoft contract or migrate to Boomi?

Ruud Pors: Do not turn this into a licensing decision; make it a decision about your operating model for the next five years. Ask yourself: in three years, who builds and changes your integrations, how quickly can they do it, and how dependent are you on a small group of specialists?

Take inventory of your active interfaces, evaluate which ones remain critical to operations, and calculate the turnaround time for deploying a new integration to production. Assessing an existing estate used to be a project in itself, but now it takes only days.

If the outcome of that analysis is that you should stay where you are, that is a legitimate answer too. What you should not do is renew for another three years simply because doing the analysis felt like too much work.
