Foscarini redefines its integration strategy and identifies Boomi as its technology partner of choice, supported by beanTech.

Business goals

Founded in 1981, on the island of Murano, Italy, Foscarini initially focused on contract lighting systems. Two years later, the company opened up to new markets and distribution channels with its first design lamps collection. Today, Foscarini transforms living space with its lighting, focusing on beauty.

In order to achieve its digital transformation objectives, Foscarini needed to redefine its integration strategy. The company wanted to guarantee business continuity for both its current and future application ecosystem.

Integration Challenges

Foscarini was using a wide variety of systems such as legacy IBM AS/400 machines, and had a heterogeneous ecosystem of third-party applications such as customer portals, supplier portals, forwarding agents, and identity providers.

The company wanted to modernize with new core business systems as well as shift its priorities between its Salesforce CRM and Magento ecommerce platform. But while its existing orchestration solution provided some custom point-to-point integrations, it was too expensive and difficult to configure and maintain, especially with the scope of work needed for true digital transformation.

How Boomi Helped

Foscarini worked with IT consultancy firm beanTech to help it select the right solution for its needs: the Boomi Enterprise Platform:

  • Boomi Integration enables the communication between the main applications Foscarini uses.
  • Boomi Flow enables the creation of simple applications and collaborative workflows on the same technological infrastructure
  • Boomi API Management keeps Foscarini’s Web APIs within the same integrated ecosystem
  • Boomi B2B/EDI Management handles the most crucial aspects of communication with B2B trading partners, such as third-party systems integration with individual suppliers and shippers

Results

The initial integration implementation included seven Boomi connectors, API management, and EDI connections with 10 of Foscarini’s training partners.

Foscarini’s IT department was able to get up to speed very quickly with Boomi’s easy to use, low-code integration platform (which in many scenarios requires no coding at all). Now, the company is saving significant time on IT systems maintenance. In future, Foscarini plans to extend the integration model to include some of its product lifecycle management (PLM) logic.
