Catholic Education Network

Australia’s CEnet IT team uses the Boomi Enterprise Platform to provide students, teachers, and staff with seamless access to the applications and information they need, while reducing backend complexity and significantly speeding up integration time.

The Catholic Education Network (CEnet)’s mission is to help improve the quality of education across 770 diocesan schools in eastern Australia. To support this, CEnet’s IT team built a network of technology systems to support learning and teaching for its 300,000 K-12 students and 30,000 teachers and staff.

But managing this broad portfolio of applications and systems had become a challenge. CEnet needed to further improve its agility while providing seamless access to applications and information for students, teachers, and staff.

Le sfide tecnologiche

A range of integration tools and techniques used at CEnet and across 16 dioceses didn’t provide the flexibility and stability needed across a complex IT environment, comprised almost exclusively of best-of-breed cloud applications.

Integrations between an array of student information systems (SIS) and identity management and access technologies were especially problematic. A team of IT specialists had to perform extensive troubleshooting and manual error handling to provide students and teachers the right access to the learning applications they needed.

Il ruolo di Boomi

Boomi serves as an identity management platform that utilizes the system for cross-domain identity management (SCIM) data standard to allow CEnet to manage the full identity lifecycle for students and staff and assign each identity with a unique and persistent identifier.

CEnet also established a Boomi-centric integration center of excellence (ICoE) for itself and member dioceses that centralizes integration knowledge, skills, and resources.

Now, CEnet has seamless, event-driven, real-time identity lifecycle management across 30 systems, and has dramatically reduced errors and complexity.

With Boomi Integration, Boomi API Management, and an ICoE in place, CEnet now has common integration processes that improve cost-efficiency and agility while also boosting productivity for IT staff, teachers, and member dioceses. CEnet has realized:

  • Faster integration development
  • Dramatically fewer issues and faster issue resolution
  • Improved access to applications for teachers and students
  • Minimal reliance on specialized integration skills
  • Scalability to process 7.5 million documents a week
  • Stability to handle 300,000 identity attribute changes for staff and students each year
