We’ve heard anecdotally from our customers about how they’ve used the Boomi integration cloud to unlock operational efficiencies, generate revenue streams and drive digital transformation.
By adopting Boomi’s low-code, cloud-native platform, our customers can much more quickly and easily connect data, applications and people. They tell us of dramatic cost savings, increased organizational speed and a broad mix of soft benefits.
But we wanted to know more details. What benefits were most significant, how do those benefits come about, and what’s the average return on investment (ROI) for Boomi enterprise customers?

On Wednesday, March 20, 2018, Salesforce announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire MuleSoft for approximately $6.5 billion. Salesforce indicates that MuleSoft will power what it is calling its new “Salesforce integration cloud.”
That is a great vision and promise. It is one that we enthusiastically support. The best news? The Integration Cloud is available today. It’s been here for more than a decade. It’s called Boomi.

Steve Wood, Boomi’s new chief product officer, is a serial innovator. Previously a vice president at Salesforce, Wood founded the low-code workflow development platform vendor ManyWho, acquired by Boomi in 2017. There’s a lot of research out there that says B2B integration can make or break your business. In fact, industry analysts have called out B2B integration as one of the top three critical integration scenarios that businesses face.
B2B integration run by electronic data interchange (EDI) makes it possible to effectively manage your partner network — vendors, suppliers and distributors. While EDI is the most established method for running B2B networks, organizations are facing multiple challenges with this decades-old technology:
- Inflexible, legacy EDI systems that were not built to integrate with new cloud-based applications
- Inability to support business initiatives for mobile applications and API connections
- Complicated troubleshooting and error resolution
- Lack of end-to-end supply chain visibility
- Slow partner onboarding
To learn more about how Boomi’s low-code, cloud-native integration platform can deliver hassle-free integration and EDI management, please attend our upcoming webinar, “Managing Your B2B Transactions in the Cloud.”
EDI Is Great, But…
Studies conducted by a host of organizations like GS1 UK confirm the continuing value of electronic data interchange (EDI).

IT modernization is on a fast track in Western Australia. Backed by an AUD$3 billion investment from the state government, an initiative promises to digitally transform how Western Australian government and businesses operate over the next 10 years.
The stakes are huge. Western Australia’s core economic engine, the mining industry, has been in gradual decline since it transitioned from a capital construction phase to a production phase in 2013.
The state government’s NextGov-ICT program is designed to save the state up to AUD$80 million a year, in part by transitioning from 60 standalone data centers to a hybrid cloud IT architecture.

For more than 30 years, businesses around the world have depended on EDI for their trading networks and ecommerce operations.
EDI remains an indispensable technology, but many EDI products are showing their age. Some still require users to work with command-line or spreadsheet-like interfaces rather than modern low-code interfaces. And most are functioning as operational silos, disconnected from other key business applications and APIs.
Time-consuming to manage and difficult to integrate, EDI is a business technology that’s ripe for some much need improvements.

Though my official title at Dell Boomi is “chief operating officer,” my favorite role is being the company’s “chief customer success officer.”
In that capacity, I would first just like to say a huge “Thank You!” to our customers. We view our customer relationships as partnerships. Thank you for being part of the Boomi family, and thank you for being great partners.
As part of my work, I lead the customer support, customer success, and professional services groups.

In the face of increasing globalization, rising customer expectations and greater choices, supply chain management is no longer just about matching supply to customer demands. It’s about differentiating a business and putting customer needs at the forefront of your operations.
The supply chain is fast evolving as a means to deliver superior omnichannel customer experience. A true omnichannel experience should provide a consistent experience no matter what channel a customer or partner uses for purchasing or interacting with a company.

Best Practices. Two words that raise the hair on the back of your neck, and sometimes your blood pressure.
Everyone wants to talk about “best practices.” But sometimes there really is a method to the madness. And when it comes to electronic data interchange (EDI), best practices are more important than with most integration technologies.
EDI is the exchange of business information using a standardized format. It is a process which allows one company to send information to another company electronically rather than with paper.
