Organizations are on a path to utilize cloud-based services for, well, just about everything. So it makes sense that the acronym XaaS — “everything (or anything) as a service” — has emerged to describe the transition from on-premise to cloud systems.
XaaS encapsulates the major cloud categories of software as a service, platform as a service, and infrastructure as a service, otherwise known as SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS. It also includes such categories as desktop, storage, database, and Windows as a service.
Shadow IT is rampant and here to stay. The question is: How is your IT team adapting to it?
In most sizable organizations, various business units have deployed cloud applications without IT’s knowledge and control. These shadow IT services range from simple document sharing apps like Dropbox or Google Drive to more sophisticated software for such functions as marketing or customer relationship management (CRM).
Shadow IT is rooted in two factors.

My clients want to launch new technology capabilities that will rapidly deliver a competitive edge. Unfortunately, project backlogs and multiple priorities often slow the pace of innovation. Overworked and understaffed IT teams often compound this problem, resulting in employee turnover that makes it even harder for businesses to retain the best and brightest IT staff.
Ultimately, the cycle of pressing priorities and strained IT resources leads to a skills gap that causes many companies to lag behind.

What happens when an immovable object meets an irresistible force? The old riddle is relevant for many IT organizations sorting through how they put in motion their application modernization strategy.
Think of it this way: The immovable object is a collection of mission-critical legacy systems that run the enterprise. They may be outdated, but they work. The business is unwilling to take on the cost, time and risk of a wholesale rip-and-replace.
The irresistible force consists of cloud applications, mobile technologies, social platforms and big data.

The hundreds of IT and business professionals who visited the Dell Boomi booth at the SuiteWorld user conference in late April underscored what we already knew: NetSuite customers face a pressing need to integrate their core cloud business management platform with best-of-breed applications.
Interest was especially high in Boomi’s pure cloud integration platform for key business processes such as lead-to-cash, human resources and omnichannel commerce. At SuiteWorld, the Boomi team gave 20-minute best practice presentations on those and other use cases.
