Across the globe extreme weather events and natural disasters routinely bring disruption, chaos and economic hardship to communities and businesses.
For example, in New Zealand where my IT consultancy Adaptiv Integration is headquartered, hard-working teams in the utility and local and central government sectors face constant pressure to respond 24x7x365 to the impact of natural and man-made events. And not always successfully.
Natural catastrophe and extreme weather events have topped the list of perceived risks to New Zealand in the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks report for 2018.

Laziness. Is that really a good habit for developers?
Search the internet for advice on the virtues of successful developers, and you’ll find a wealth of observations, not all of which exactly square with one another. The differences shouldn’t be surprising. People vary, and successful people will vary in how they go about achieving success.
Beneath these variations, though, there are common, road-tested practices — habits — for addressing the challenges of producing excellent software — whether integrations or new applications — day after day, under tight deadlines, and in the face of shifting technical requirements and business conditions.

If you Google the term “customer engagement,” you’ll get a lot of responses. Like over 10 million. Similarly, “customer delight” returns nearly four million. Marketers want to “engage” their customers so they can “delight” them.
But customers often have very low expectations — experience being a brutal teacher — and so the bar for delight is set pretty low.
What does all this mean when it comes to developing mobile applications for your customers, partners, employees and suppliers?

Well, it’s over. Phew!
Dell Boomi’s first-ever user conference took place Tuesday, Sept. 19 – Friday, Sept. 22 in San Francisco at the Westin St. Francis hotel. By all accounts, it was a great success.
Boomi World provided a fantastic opportunity to bring our partners and customers together to share their knowledge about cloud-native data and application integration. Together we expanded our collective understanding of the best ways to build connected businesses.

It’s conventional wisdom that data and application integration results in better business. When systems are connected, organizations are more responsive to customer needs, more innovative, more efficient and more profitable.
But how much better? A new study by Dell Boomi, based on a survey of 400 information technology decision-makers in the United States conducted by the research firm Vanson Bourne, provides answers.
Released at the Boomi World 2017 conference, “The Connected Business” report quantifies how organizations with successful integration strategies realize millions of dollars in cost savings and new revenue from efficiency and productivity boosts, while businesses with poor integration practices suffer higher costs, process delays, sluggish responsiveness, and missed opportunities.
IT and business professionals descending on Boomi World in San Francisco this week have pressing concerns: How can they connect their systems faster and better? How can they strengthen engagement across their organizations and with their customers and partners?
Boomi Flow, officially unveiled at Boomi World, helps crack those challenges. Based on Boomi’s acquisition of ManyWho earlier this year, Boomi Flow is a low-code development platform that lets organizations rapidly build and deploy workflow applications.

Our CEO, Chris McNabb, recently wrote in a blog post that adopting a “cloud-first” strategy is a business imperative. Organizations must become experts in managing their cloud applications and data to compete in our hyperspeed and brutally competitive age of digital transformation.
I want to follow up on Chris’ key insights with some practical considerations for how organizations can set themselves up as cloud-first businesses. By doing a little bit of homework, your company can more effectively take advantage of SaaS, IaaS, PaaS and other IT management innovations.

Have you noticed lately that virtually every new technology innovation, system, or application is “powered” by artificial intelligence (AI)? Is it really? Hmmm. I guess it depends on how much you want to water down the definition of AI.
One of my favorite quotes about AI comes from British author and technology theorist Tom Chatfield who writes, “Forget artificial intelligence — in the brave new world of big data, it’s artificial idiocy we should be looking out for.” Amen to that.
